Denis (March 3rd, 2012) is six years old and lives with his parents and five siblings. Their house, if that’s what you can call it, is an abandoned home with only one room where they sleep, cook, eat, and play. They have no utilities, neither running water nor electricity. They heat up food and cook with a wood burning stove and carry water in buckets from a nearby car wash. For light in the night they use candles, or when they have the opportunity, they charge a car battery to make light in the house. Neither of his parents have stable jobs. The everyday material needs of the family are not being met because the parents lack the education which makes them unable to get good paying jobs. Denis should already be in the first grade but because of a speech impediment due to his tonsils needing to be taken out, he hasn’t even begun kindergarten. Even if he gets the needed surgery some day, he will have to go to a special school that helps him to advance to the level of the other kids. Denis is a very good child that just needs your help to get through the challenges of life that he and his family face.
